Review of Heartstopper
After that incident, Nick invites Charlie to his rugby team, which develops Charlie's feelings for Nick. Charlie happens to run into Ben again, this time Ben forces Charlie to kiss him. Nick saves Charlie once again but this time, Nick starts to develop feelings for Charlie. At night, Nick texts Charlie asking if he is alright. They go into a big conversation where Charlie explains why Ben started to pester him, and in the end they end the night by texting heart emojis at each other. The next time they saw each other during rugby practice, Nick invites Charlie to his house that day and we get introduced to Charlie’s older sister, Victoria. Victoria immediately catches on that Charlie is gay and supports them. Charlie arrives and immediately they start doing fun activities like playing video games and playing outside in the snow. Once Charlie leaves, Nick’s mom notices that Nick seems to be acting like himself a lot more around Charlie.
As always, the scene shifts back to them doing activities together which makes Nick start to research if he is gay. He starts to look at the internet with a puzzling confusion on his face, wondering if he actually loves Charlie. The next and final scene cuts to Charlie going to one of his classmate’s (named Harry Greene) birthday party in his mansion. Nick meets with Charlie but they immediately get separated when Harry takes Nick to his crush that he had when he was still young. Charlie bumps into Ben once again but this time, he shows his strength against Ben, making sure that Ben doesn’t mess with him ever again. Nick and Charlie meet back in a private room where they share their feelings with each other and they kiss, ending the first volume of the book.
Overall, I think people who like reading romance books should definitely read Heartstopper as it is a unique book that shows gay people progressing into a relationship. If you seem sick of reading romance novels that involve a simple relationship, maybe give this book a try.
In my opinion, the book was decent. However, I’m not that big into romance books, but more into action or sci-fi genres, so I’m not much to give a good rating on this book. I do see aspects of this book that I can see relating to real life which I feel gives a better way to understand how the protagonist thinks and feels.
Hi Adrian,
ReplyDeleteI have not read this book but watched the Netflix series. It sounds like the Netflix version and the book are very similar. Have you watched the movie, and if so do you like the book or movie better?

Hi Adrian! Great blog post! I read these books as a Webtoon and really liked them, but the author definitely has better books. I think that even though these books are a little too much romance, the book is much better than the show.
