The sky above us

 The sky above us

Sahnan Haber

The sky above us, by Natalie Lund is a fiction novel set in the present. It tells the story of 6 high school juniors who witness their friends die in a plane crash. The book starts out at the senior party at the end of the school year on the beach of the island they live on. After partying, and eventually falling asleep, they wake up a few hours later to a loud sound and see a plane slowly falling into the water. They start to suspect that 3 of their friends Nate, Shane and Israel, who had left the party earlier were the ones in the plane. After this point, the book is told jumping between characters, and before and after the crash. The reader is able to see how the three got themselves into the c
rash, and how the others investigated it.

What I liked

I really liked how the book jumps between before and after the accident so you can see multiple points of view at the same time. Something else I liked about this book that was unlike any of the others I reviewed is that this one has action from the start without making you wait for a third of the book. The characters in the book are made very well, unique and have a lot of depth. Natalie Lund describes the scenes really well as well as showing how grief affects very different characters. A final thing that I liked about the book is the ending, and how well it wraps everything up.

What I didn’t like

There wasn’t much that I didn’t like, however one small thing is that some of the casual dialogue between the characters feels weird and unnatural.

Overall, this is a really good book, and my favorite out of the books I’ve read for the blog so far. The sky above us is nearly perfect, but I would have to be blown away by a book to give it a 5/5. I would give this book a 4.5/5

  1. Hi Sahnan! This book sounds interesting! I think that it is really nice when the action starts in the beginning since it sucks you in. It reminds me of another mystery novel, 'One of us is lying' by Karen M. McManus. Maybe you would like that book as well..

  2. Hey Sahnan! The crash seems very suspicious to me so I can see how this book was immediately interesting. I wonder whether the different perspectives of the characters revealed something sinister about it.
